Office leasing across eight major Indian cities stood at 66.7 million sq ft in the first nine months of 2026, broadly unchanged from a year earlier, according to Knight Frank India data reported by The Economic Times. Global capability centres, flex operators and India-facing businesses took a larger share, while leasing by traditional IT services firms slowed.
CBRE put absorption for the same period at about 66.4 million sq ft, the highest for any comparable nine-month period, with flexible-space operators accounting for 24% of leasing in Q3 2026, as cited by Table Space.
Mint reported that flex operators accounted for a 24% share of leasing at the all-India level in the first nine months, with flex transactions of 16.1 million sq ft, up 14% year on year. Shares of listed operators WeWork India, Indiqube and Smartworks have risen 17–39% over six months.
What it means for your business
- Different research firms use different city sets and methods, so their totals do not match exactly — the direction is the same: flex space is a steady share of new office demand.
- Most of this growth is in tier-1 cities. In smaller markets such as Raipur, ready-to-use offices remain a practical way for teams to start without fit-out costs or long lock-ins.
